Krishnagar Government College is an old-age institution that has served society for more than 178 years. A dedicated effort to maintain academic excellence despite many constraints makes this institution distinct from all other colleges in the district.

This institution has a repute in the local community for its academic excellence, which is reflected in a large number of applicants during the admission process every year. There is a huge craving for admission among the students with high marks in the 10+2 level.

This college has a very rich library with a very large number of books. All the departments also run their seminar libraries. The central library, enriched with very old as well as modern books and journals, is an asset to this institution. Teachers always encourage the students to borrow reference books from libraries to gain in-depth knowledge of their subjects.

Being a government college, transfer of teaching and non-teaching staff happens periodically and some academic departments and the college office run with extreme staff shortages, but quality of education never gets compromised. Despite the insufficiency of financial support to build proper infrastructure facilities to meet the demand of the syllabi, committed faculty members strive to compensate for these limitations. At the end of the day, students pass out with flying colours and often secure positions in university toppers. In 2018, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rank holders in B.Sc. Chemistry Honours of Kalyani University were from this institution. In 2020, Nabarun Poddar achieved the highest marks at the undergraduate level in Physics, securing the first rank at the university, and he is presently working at ISRO.

Students of this institution often qualify in the national level entrance tests for admission to MA / M.Sc. After graduating from this college in 2020, Sumanta Basak, Joydeb Mondal, Kishor Das, Sayan Kumar Biswas, and Biswajit Biswas (chemistry department), Pubali Pal (physics department) have cleared JAM and completed their M.Sc. from different IITs. Such enlightened faculty members ensure quality education for the students and encourage them to pursue higher education in their respective subjects.

This college has also won many recognitions for providing quality education to present-day students. In June 2018, the news channel Zee 24 Ghanta conferred the Education Excellence Award to Krishnagar Government College for establishing high standards in quality of education. Honourable Higher Education Minister handed over the award to the Officer-in-Charge of the college at a grand ceremony at Nazrul Mancha. Kalyani University also conferred a certificate of appreciation as the best-performing college in the Nadia zone.

To conclude, it can be said that despite the crunch in funds, staff shortage, and lack of infrastructural support, Krishnagar Government College has successfully upheld value-based quality education. This college is the first choice for many students of Nadia district who want to pursue higher education after completing school. This college has remained the centre of excellence for higher education in the district for many years, and this is the distinctiveness of this college.
